Do you need any special cords to hook up to a laptop?

No, the Precision Score system works as-is with laptops. The system uses the laptop's standard parallel (printer) port. A USB version is not available at this time. If you use an external monitor, you do need a standard PC monitor cable connecting the monitor to the laptop's video out connector.
